PARTY ROCK — holiday party, open
« on: December 17, 2020, 07:28:45 PM »
(( content warning for mentions of underage drinking, possibly illegal drugs, etc. ))

With the upcoming holidays, it only makes sense that someone were to host a party, right? It just so happens to be Eefje's job this year, her incredible Titanic-looking mansion being the perfect spot to fit everyone and anyone. Furniture has been pushed against the walls, and valuable objects stored away to make sure nothing gets broken.

As for who picked the playlist...that's a bit of a mystery. Trashy, awful music blares over the speakers, sounding like nails on a chalkboard. (It wouldn't be too mean if someone were to hijack the playlist and pick something nice, no?)

In the living room, tables are laid out with countless items of food, including edibles and a few other drugs. Of course, there's the normal kind of food: cookies, cake, shrimp cocktail, brownies (the edible and non-edible kind), and so much more. Drinks, too: alcohol (thanks to Benny and other's fake IDs), milk, hot chocolate, soda, and water, of course.

Mistletoe is strung up around the house, specifically in doorways and the entryway, along with other games such as the "pin the tail on the donkey," beer pong, and more. Needless to say, this is a pretty good party—let's just pray there's no drama...
❀          Then everyone crept into his bed and, making a cozy nest for himself, pulled his blanket over his ears and thought of something nice. But Moomintroll sighed a little and said: "I'm afraid we shall waste an awful lot of time." "Don't worry," answered Snufkin, "we shall have wonderful dreams, and when we wake up it’ll be spring."                                                         ❀

Parties make Brendan wanna die, figuratively.

Like, don't get him wrong—he likes seeing his friends. But at parties, there are more people than just his friends, people are fucking everywhere, and—and oh God, those people are twerking. Hiding the side of his vision with his hand, Brendan scurries to the nearest corner, near the drinks stand. Leaning against the wall, he exhales slowly, scooting side-to-side to make sure nobody brushes against him.

Truth be told, he hasn't dressed appropriately for the occasion. He refused to go out and buy a Christmas costume, and he doesn't have an ugly sweater to his name—so, he wears nothing. Well—well he is wearing something, just a typical hoodie and jeans and sneakers, but like...nothing blatantly Christmas-y. His hoodie is red...? Does that work? He doesn't know, and a part of him couldn't care less. (Of course, he does start sweating a little when he notices how most people are dressed up...oof.)

It's not that he dislikes Christmas, his birthday is on that day for crying out loud, he just...has never been the most festive. Sure, it's nice seeing all the decorations out. Sure, he likes the food. Sure, he likes getting gifts. But everything else is eh: being forced to talk to people he doesn't like, getting dragged to parties, the bombardment of "Merry Christmas!" and "happy birthday!" messages on the same day...it's draining.

Slowly, Brendan drags his vision towards the line of those waiting for hot chocolate—it's long. Not as long as the other lines, but still lengthy. Lots of people. Still, though, he swallows his shyness (after a bit of gagging) and meanders towards the end of the line, avoiding eye contact with anyone. Hopefully...just hopefully, nobody will try to talk with him.

(( i forgot how to write lol ))

HETAL BHARDWAJ

AIN'T NEVER FELT THIS WAY, CAN'T GET ENOUGH SO STAY WITH ME ・✧
Hetal was wearing a fuzzy sweater, but it didn't stop the chills that travelled down her spine. Her lawyer gave her a call just a couple hours before, saying that he just wanted to check in. But a fool could know better; no one just did that out of the blue.

Hetal leaned into the mirror and attempted to retouch her makeup by drawing a shaky curve over her eye.

"Fuck-"

The pencil clattered into the sink, and what was supposed to be a swoop was a line that took a tangent across her eyebrow. She gripped the edges of the counter and squeezed the tears out of her eyes.

Who snitched?

The only people who knew about it were her lawyer and the two other girls that were in her lineup. None of them would dare, unless they let something slip on accident. But what was she supposed to do? It wouldn't even help if-

Her stomach lurched. What was she thinking?

No, it was fine. She would think about it later. It was all looking a little pathetic now, just standing in someone's bathroom and jittering about something she had absolutely no control over.

She huffed. If only she could just pat some foundation over this whole mess like how she was doing right now.

No, no- it would be okay. It would be okay.

Hetal smoothed out her clothes, turned the knob, and pushed the door open. She hesitated - there was a bit more commotion in the room than how she had left it a few minutes ago. The shivers were coming again. She wished Rachel were here.

She spotted Brendan at the end of a large queue. She made a beeline towards him, then nudged him timidly.

"Uh..hey Bren. I kind of, um, got you something." It was stupid. It was so stupid. "It's like.." she was fishing around in her bag for a little longer than normal. "A little thing. For your rooster." She dangled a tiny red sweater in between her fingers. She'd spent ages knitting it, not exactly knowing why or for who it was. So this whole thing was merely out of convenience, or so she tried to convince herself.

"It kind of sucks, sorry."

Secrets are dangerous, Brendan has learned, and the best way to deal with them is to keep them a secret. Even in elementary school he had somewhat understood the weight of secrets, what they mean, and as a result he...well, he's tried to keep secrets. Admittedly, he's rather awful at lying and whatnot; if someone were to interrogate him, it wouldn't take long for him to spill the beans about everything. So, he tries to keep secrets under wraps entirely—that is, he would avoid conversations regarding any secret to the best of his ability.

Example? His father, Aaron, maybe. Not a very nice guy, not in a...healthy relationship with Brendan. If Aaron were to ever get brought up in a conversation, Brendan would simply dodge the subject as a whole, maybe bring up something completely unrelated to Aaron. Yes, it's obvious. Yes, it's annoying. But honestly, he doesn't want to tell the world that his father is a piece of crap, right? It'd be...embarrassing, he thinks, and—like, his father is the CEO of his dead mother's business...Brendan can't risk anything.

Still, though, should a friend give him a secret, something he must guard, then he'd tried his damned best. He's awkward, obvious and simply-put awful at lying, but...he tries. That's all that matters, right? Right? ...Well, not really, but he likes to think it does.

The line barely moves after what feels like centuries and, for a moment, Brendan considers dipping out of line and heading elsewhere. Before he can decide on that, though, something pokes his side; flinching with a squeak, he whips his head to look down at Hetal, eyes wide for just a moment before he relaxes his muscles. He tilts his head to one side, listens. He glances down at the little sweater, stuffing his hands in his hoodie in the process.

It's cute. Not professionally made, but cute. Cozy, too. His cheeks burn a little when he reaches one hand out and tentatively curls his fingers around the yarn—very thick, the sweater. Retracting his arm, he holds it close to his chest, making sure not to let it slip from his grasp.

"I like it," he muses with a smile, his voice barely above a whisper while his thumb toys with the sweater. "I—Roosty will like it...too." He glances up at Hetal, squirms with the eye contact, and then shoots his stare to her forehead. (Much better.) "Uhm...thank you."

He nods his head, as if affirming his own words, and immediately darts his gaze to the floor. Then he pauses, drops the smile and looks back up at Hetal. He squints for a moment, parting his lips ever so slightly. Is that...?

"U-uhm..." Brendan doesn't point, but instead vaguely gestures towards Hetal with his hand, his grip on the sweater tightening. "You have something...on your, uh, eyebrow...?"

Damn...is he saying too much? For a moment he gawks a little longer, but when someone pushes his back, he squeaks and looks at the line—oops. Face a tomato red, he scoots up the line, only one person away from the hot chocolate now. Expectantly, he glances back at Hetal, but he doesn't keep eye contact for long.

Michiko loved parties- especially the ones she didn’t have to host. Parties were full of alcohol, drugs, and drama. Michiko loved drama. And with the cast of characters that were her “friend group,” there was bound to be a show for Michi to enjoy.

Maybe this time she’d join the cast, though.

”Wow, Hetal, did you make that yourself?” The brunette pried as she came to a stop next to Brendan, thin brows raised. Michi’s eyes scanned the sweater, closer this time, before coming to a conclusion.

”I never knew you had a new hobby.” She remarked cooly, a stab at the sweater’s unmastered appearance. Her gaze drifted elsewhere, scanning the faces around her, appearing bored by the conversation, before hearing Brendan mention Hetal’s eyebrow.

Michiko’s focus came back, and she smiled as she saw the faint line through her brow, a soft giggle escaped her bright lips. ”Did you just come from a jock in a room already?” She was pushing it. Hetal’s voice didn’t sound her usual self, and the brunette was capitalizing on it. She raised her red solo cup to her red lips, masking her pleased smile, tasting the vodka mixed badly with strawberry lemonade.

Maybe she should let up. Hetal’s eyes looked slightly bloodshot.

”Brendan, I’m disappointed you didn’t wear a sweater, at least.” But not surprised. He often seemed like he made an effort to blend in.

The Van Den Berg's holiday party — somewhere where he would likely feel more out of place than not. Even though Romeo's family had quite a bit of money, enough to get him and his mom a suite in the prestigious Carnegie Hill neighborhood, he didn't consider classy parties his scene. It never really was.

Nevertheless, the boy would attend. With his hair slicked to the side and Dior Sauvage spritzed onto his pulse points, Romeo showed up to the festivities relatively under the radar. He only greeted a few peers on his way to the drink bar, where he would grab a Coke. His outfit of choice included a Taco Bell Christmas sweater, which was exactly what it sounded like — tacos and the famous logo on a purple and red background. Taco Bell didn't exactly scream Christmas, but Romeo always liked to put a little personal twist on whatever he did. It wasn't like he was going to wear an actual Christmas-y outfit to a holidat party.

Brendan and Hetal were talking, and perhaps exchanging a sentimental moment. He knew Brendan as one of the lowerclassmen; he seemed reserved like him, but was decent. Hetal was a lot to handle at times from what he could gather, but perhaps it depended on who she was talking to. Brendan seemed to have earned a soft spot. Then came Michiko, the queen bee of the school ( or one of them, at least ). He hadn't interacted with her much but had certainly heard about her and the drama within her circle. Romeo personally wished to remain far, far away from it.

That being said, he keeps to the sidelines. Romeo doesn't consider himself antisocial — he gets along with a majority of the guys and most of the girls that attended the school. He even has a few people he'd consider close friends. Everybody right now is either engaging with someone he hasn't a desire to talk to or doing a dumb borderline frat-house activity ( like getting stupidly wasted ), and he doesn't care to participate in that either. Romeo figures he will just look around, give a half-smile and an acknowledgement to people he recognizes. By the end of the night, he'll be bound to converse with someone, right?

Since Hetal couldn't really muster a 'you're welcome', she merely gave him a nod in response. But things were different when matters turned to her eyebrow. "Huh?" She raised her hand to her forehead and tried to rub something off. She looked at her fingers - nothing. "What do you.."

"Wow, Hetal, did you make that yourself?"

Ohhhhh emmmmm geeeeeee......

”I never knew you had a new hobby.”

She wasn't sure whether to ignore her or not. Michi and her didn't have the best relationship, but she usually found their little squabbles entertaining. It was annoying that the extent of Michi's obsession with her was so desperate that she invited herself into her private conversations unprovoked, but you lose some to win some..or whatever.

”Did you just come from a jock in a room already?”

She gave up on rubbing her forehead and turned her full attention to Michi. "Yeah, he was telling me how amazing I was at sucking off his ginormous baseball bat a couple of nights ago.." She made a little snake charming gesture with her fists. "so it was really just a little chat to catch up." Stupid dumb bimbo bitch. Like, what was this girl on? Did she really think her and her perfectly lined lips could be capable of pushing her around?

Her eyes wandered, spotting Romeo in the back of the room. She quickly crossed her arms and turned away. For some reason, she felt she needed to look as composed as possible whenever he was looking over.

But she couldn't possibly resist.

"What about you? You look super cute and put together..not much luck in that department, then?"

Scooter loves parties. In fact, if Scooter was an event it'd be just that. A party. That'd be pretty cool, now that he thinks about it.

Maybe it's not obvious, but he's high. Already, sure, but many people didn't quite realize as to why that was so. It made things easier, better to enjoy. He didn't need to get drunk as long as he was high. Not as if he was really favorable of getting drunk anyway. It made him pretty irrational and frankly very dumb. Stupid decisions were made under the influence of alcohol and so yeah, he'd rather stick to the drugs that . . . somehow made him smarter, or at least in his terms.

To no one's surprise, Scooter is already mingling; he has no trouble doing so. He needs to make sure that everyone sees his Christmas sweater, which is adorned in bright colors with some incongrous pun on the front of it. To some people's dismay, they see it twice. Some are too drunk to notice, and so laugh along even though they're not really amused, and others are simply play along because Scooter is waaaay too high-spirited to turn him away. It's the latter that gets a very unfortunate junior in a conversation about the philosophical meaning of space that ends up being 15 minutes or so until she abruptly excuses herself to the bathroom before hurrying away. Scooter doesn't register her excuse as an effort to get away from him, so he thinks about waiting for her, eager to what he himself as to say, but someone is quick to capture his attention: "Rooomeo!"

He hurries his way through a packed crowd to his good friend, Romeo, pulling him into a hug. "How are you, buddy?" One might think they haven't seen each other in months rather than just days prior. Pulling away from his friend, he surveys the "Taco Bell" logo'd sweater that he wears, chortling. "I like your sweater, very out-of-occasion for you- wait look at mine." he points at it, waiting for Romeo to register, and to Scooter's hope, laugh as all the other poor souls had before.

Hosting parties weren't usually something Eefje did, especially ones like this. But when she had heard no one else was putting one together she decided to. She stood in her snowman dress, the scarf tied around her waist as she commented on people's ugly sweaters and listened quietly to conversations happening around her. She had hung out with Andy for a bit once she found out he was there, but she had lost him at one point, and with all the people there...it was hard for her to find specific people.

She was the host of course, but talking to people she didn't know didn't always go well. She didn't want to start rambling about something, especially something as boring as details about her house because she knew a bit about it. Instead of talking, however, she decided to avoid it as much as she could by going to get herself a drink. With the number of people there wearing those "ugly sweaters" that usually were just the same pattern with words or a picture of something on them, Eefje definitely felt a bit out of place in her sweater dress. Though she had been told it was clever, what with the scarf as the belt and the snowman spaced out for the placement to look like the snowman was wearing the scarf.

Taking her drink, she walked away into the crowd of people, holding the cup close to her lips before drinking from it. The taste of whatever alcoholic drink she got didn't phase the blonde too much, but she went back to holding her cup close to her as she looked around almost as if hoping she could find someone to not necessarily talk to, but stand near so she didn't seem like an outcast at her own party. She recognized faces, sure, but she didn't feel like she knew them enough or at all for her to go over and join them. Instead, she just continued to drink from her cup.
